Citi Integrates Blockchain Platform with USD Clearing for 24/7 Cross-Border Payments

Citi has integrated its blockchain-based Citi Token Services with USD Clearing to enable instant cross-border payments for institutional clients around the clock.

Citigroup announced it has successfully integrated its blockchain-based Citi Token Services platform with its 24/7 USD Clearing solution, creating what the bank calls an industry-first capability for real-time cross-border payments and liquidity management. The integration enables 24/7 multibank cross-border instant payments for corporate and financial institution clients operating between the United States and United Kingdom.

Citi Token Services leverages a private permissioned blockchain to tokenize client deposits, allowing for programmable money transfers that can operate continuously without traditional banking hour restrictions. The platform now works in conjunction with Citi's existing 24/7 USD Clearing infrastructure, which previously operated on conventional technology, to provide seamless payment processing.

The New York-based global banking giant, which serves institutional clients across more than 95 countries, positioned this development as expanding its growing real-time payment network. The bank said the integration empowers corporate and financial institution clients to initiate payment instructions and manage liquidity across different time zones without delays typically associated with traditional correspondent banking.

Under the new system, when clients initiate cross-border payments, Citi utilizes the Token Services integration with the 24/7 USD Clearing solution to move funds to beneficiary banks that are part of the network. This eliminates the need for traditional settlement windows and reduces payment delays that have historically affected international transactions.

The integration represents Citi's broader push into blockchain-based financial services for institutional clients. Earlier in 2025, the bank also announced a collaboration with Dandelion to transform cross-border payments by enabling near-instant, full-value payments directly into digital wallets across multiple jurisdictions. That partnership focuses on delivering payments to digital wallet providers globally, complementing the Token Services integration which targets traditional banking relationships.
