Everything You Need to Know About Farcaster, Base App, and the Upcoming $BASE Airdrop

We're starting to see more KOLs using Base App and Farcaster. If you're unsure what these apps are and why people are so hyped about them, this is for you.

As of now, Farcaster is fully open and free to use.

Meanwhile, Base App is still in limited access. You'll need either a special invitation code or successful approval through early access registration.

As a Web3-native social platform, the most distinctive feature is that every profile functions as a wallet, enabling seamless trading within the platform, NFT minting, and tokenization of posts to make them tradable.

For Farcaster, there are no traditional passwords, just like any Web3 wallet, your account is secured using a seed phrase that you must keep safe. Base App, which evolved from Coinbase Wallet, has transformed into an all-in-one social platform. You can log in to Base App using your Farcaster account, and each profile operates as a smart wallet.

Functionally, Base App and Farcaster are almost identical. They mirror each other’s content and mini-apps: whatever you post on Farcaster will automatically appear on Base App (marked with a small symbol indicating its origin), and the same applies in reverse.

On a side note, it does feel a little lonely using these platforms since they are yet to reach the same level of adoption as Twitter.

You’ll essentially need to rebuild your social circle and audience from scratch, separate from your existing network on X. Nonetheless, both platforms are growing steadily, and gaining early access to build your connections there undeniably carries more pros than cons.

Circling back, the reason many are now eager to gain access to Base App is largely due to the anticipation of the $BASE airdrop.

In fact, both projects are widely expected to launch their tokens soon.

Farcaster has already raised an impressive $180 million in total funding, with $30 million from a seed round in 2022 led by a16z and $150 million from a Series A round in 2024 led by Paradigm. Its latest valuation stands at $1 billion.

Earlier this week, Farcaster introduced a minting of Warplets NFT. The event saw significant participation, with nearly 40,000 users minting through the mini app, Harmonybot (), which was exclusively available to Farcaster Pro users. The mini app works by taking a user’s unique Farcaster ID (FID) and current PFP, then remixing the PFP with the Warplet mascot to create a one-of-a-kind NFT.

On October 27 alone, there were 15,296 new Pro subscriptions, generating approximately $316,015 in fees. On the secondary market, total trading volume on OpenSea reached 621 ETH, with a 24-hour volume of 31 ETH.

Warplet serves as Farcaster’s official mascot, the name of its in-house wallet, and now an NFT collection generated entirely by Harmonybot. An interesting twist in the minting process is that a portion of each minting fee is used to buy and burn the community-created token $WARP.

The success of the Warplets mint has reignited attention on Farcaster’s ecosystem and strengthened speculation around its potential token launch.

However, there hasn’t been any news regarding the TGE from Farcaster. While Farcaster has not yet confirmed any details, the $BASE airdrop is almost officially confirmed.
