Tether Expands USDT to Bitcoin’s RGB Protocol

Tether announces the launch of USD? on RGB, enabling native Bitcoin stablecoin transactions with enhanced privacy and scalability.

Tether, a leading name in the crypto industry, revealed its plan to launch USD₮ on RGB, a cutting-edge protocol designed for issuing digital assets on Bitcoin. This move aims to integrate stablecoins directly into Bitcoin's ecosystem, leveraging its security and decentralization while introducing private and scalable transactions.

RGB, which recently achieved a mainnet release with version 0.11.1, transforms Bitcoin into more than just a store of value. It facilitates user-controlled issuance of assets, making it possible for stablecoins like USD₮ to operate natively on Bitcoin’s network. The new integration promises fast, private, and lightweight payments globally, allowing users to hold and transfer USD₮ alongside Bitcoin within the same wallet.

Paolo Ardoino, CEO of Tether, emphasized the importance of this development, stating that Bitcoin deserves a stablecoin that is truly native, scalable, and private. This initiative aligns with Tether’s vision of Bitcoin as the cornerstone of a freer financial future.

Tether has consistently dominated the stablecoin market, holding 60% of its share despite rising competition from alternatives like USDC and Ripple’s RLUSD. The company has also been active in exploring partnerships globally, including discussions with major South Korean banks about stablecoin adoption.

This expansion reflects Tether's commitment to making Bitcoin not only the original crypto but also a foundation for everyday global transactions. The integration with RGB could set a precedent for stablecoin innovation within the Bitcoin ecosystem, further solidifying Tether's leadership in the digital asset space.
