Polymarket Acquires QCEX in $112M Deal, Signals U.S. Comeback

By JuneJul 22, 2025

CEO Shayne Coplan says Polymarket is ready to welcome back American traders.

In a strategic move signaling its U.S. comeback, Polymarket, the decentralized prediction market platform, has acquired derivatives exchange QCEX in a $112 million deal, according to Bloomberg sources familiar with the matter.

The acquisition of QCEX, a relatively small derivatives trading venue, marks a pivotal moment for Polymarket. The move is designed to provide Polymarket with the regulatory foothold necessary to re-enter the U.S. market, which it was previously forced to exit due to regulatory scrutiny.

Polymarket gained national attention during the 2024 U.S. presidential election, when millions of dollars were wagered on the outcome, particularly on the possibility of Donald Trump returning to the White House. The platform’s rapid rise drew attention from regulators, prompting a joint investigation by the Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC).

That regulatory chapter has now closed. Bloomberg reported on July 15 that both the DOJ and CFTC have officially concluded their investigation into Polymarket, removing a significant barrier to its U.S. operations.

Polymarket CEO Shayne Coplan confirmed the acquisition and expressed optimism about the platform's future in a post on X, “This paves the way for us to welcome American traders again. I've waited a long time to say this: Polymarket is coming home.”

Polymarket’s Comeback Marks a New Chapter

With Kalshi operating under the oversight of the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC), it currently stands as the only fully regulated prediction market in the United States, offering event contracts on a range of topics including economic indicators and political outcomes.

Polymarket’s re-entry through QCEX could introduce renewed competition in the evolving and closely watched U.S. prediction market landscape. Whether Polymarket can successfully integrate QCEX’s infrastructure and satisfy evolving U.S. compliance standards remains to be seen, but its return signals a new chapter in the battle for dominance in regulated on-chain forecasting.
